Housecall Telemedicine: Pilot Protocol
Transforming healthcare delivery through thoughtful design and user experience.
Learn More
TL;DR
I led UX and communication strategy for Housecall, a mobile telehealth app that reconnected patients with their own providers — with devices they already owned. I designed the user flows, crafted the product’s strategic narrative, and created executive-facing presentations that helped secure funding, hospital partnerships, and accelerator acceptance.
Impact
  • Approved for pilot implementation with a major hospital system
  • Secured $30K in funding from a state innovation grant
  • Accepted into two startup accelerator programs
  • Recognized by stakeholders for clarity of product strategy and UX design
  • Created a repeatable, trust-centered telehealth experience designed for real-life patients — not just tech-savvy users
Project Overview
Recruited by the CEO of The Venture Center to help a cardiologist-led telemedicine startup refresh its visual design and better position it for funding. The app already existed, but lacked UX polish and visual clarity.
Situation
Telemedicine in the U.S. was gaining momentum but still lacked trust, consistency, and accessibility — especially for patients with chronic conditions. Most platforms paired patients with unfamiliar providers, required additional hardware, or weren’t covered by insurance. Our team set out to build a simpler solution: a mobile platform that connected patients with their own doctors, using only a smartphone.
Problem
While the idea was strong, we faced a common startup challenge:
  • No shared roadmap across clinical, product, and business stakeholders
  • Limited understanding of how UX could support patient trust and provider adoption
  • And no clear story to explain why this product mattered in a crowded space
Solution
I stepped in as co-founder and design lead to craft both the user experience and the strategic narrative that made our product real for patients, providers, and potential funders.
  • Designed a dual-user flow (patients + providers) centered on trust and ease of use
  • Created a modular interface with chat, video, and health device integrations (e.g. Fitbit, Withings)
  • Built storytelling decks that framed Housecall as a smarter, more human-first alternative to “doctor-on-demand” models
  • Led the creation of clinical onboarding flows and HIPAA-compliant design components
Learning
Navigating healthcare systems requires more than a great product. It demands stakeholder fluency.
Even when a solution offers real clinical and operational value, success depends on internal champions who believe in the vision and can help clear the path.
In highly mature and complex spaces like healthcare, influence often more powerful than innovation.
